A community wide Garage Sale will take place at Wilkes Elementary School on Saturday June 13th from 9 am - 4pm to benefit the "Save Our Teachers" campaign. Please drop off your slightly used items (furniture, clothes, bikes, household items, books etc. No computers, televisions or large appliances please!) on Friday June 12 after 4:30pm. Then come and shop for treasures on Saturday. Stay tuned for other events to fund the "Save our Teachers" campaign!

SAVE OUR TEACHERS Campaign

We have officially launched the "Save our Teachers" Campaign now that the bond vote has been taken. I am going to each school, along with Faith Chapel, our schools superintendent and together with the PTO's and the principals of each school, are reviewing the cuts that are expected next year. There is a $2.0-$2.1Million budget deficit for general fund and over 17 teachers, nurses, counselors, bus drivers, custodians, and para educators have been cut from the budget. We are identifying the cuts at each school and asking parents to donate what they can to help offset this budget. $100 x 3800 students will recall 5 teachers, $200 x 3800 students will recall 11 teachers,
$500 x 3800 students will eliminate the whole budget problem. We also can take payment on a monthly basis to ease the burden of the payment. We need to get this money pledged by June 30th, so we can recall teachers before they find new jobs.
An all school district mailer will go out to each family and donations can be made at the schools, by mail or on our website. Together, we can make a difference!

Vote for the Bond Issue for the Schools!

You all should have gotten your voting envelopes in the mail by now.
There are just two issues on the ballot, one for city management and one for the schools.
We need you to vote yes for the schools as this approves the necessary capital funds to repair our schools. Taxes will not be raised as a result of this bond and the work to repair and replace Wilkes Elementary will be 20% less given these economic times. Please Vote!
